Puppy Care

As puppy owners we can assure you getting a puppy is VERY exciting. Here are some tips to help him or her settle in.

Things you will need:

  • Food and water bowls
  • Puppy food – wet or dry
  • A comfortable bed
  • Puppy pads
  • Suitable toys
  1. Place the puppy bed in a quiet corner that can be the puppy’s safe space. A blanket smelling of mum may make the puppy feel more at home. Toys to cuddle up to may make them feel safe but avoid anything that could be a choke hazard.
  2. Initially start with the food the breeder has been using and if you want to make changes slowly transition to avoid upsetting the puppy’s tummy. At eight weeks old 4 meals a day are recommended with free access to water.
  3. For the first few nights you can expect your puppy to whimper but the pup should soon settle in quite happily.
  4. Start toilet training by regularly letting your puppy out and praising good toilet habits.
  5. Your puppy cannot mix with unvaccinated dogs or interact with wildlife until he or she is fully vaccinated. Book an appointment to arrange a health check, vaccination, a discussion about worming and flea control. Diet, neutering and microchipping.
